Farm House Estate

This three acre garden high in The Chilterns is in a beautiful position overlooking a valley…

Our clients’ brief was to have a relaxed, informal seating area on two sides of the house and a garden surrounding the entire property. With the property enjoying aspects for the entire 360 degrees it was appropriate to maximise its position so that the gardens can be enjoyed all day.

Where possible it’s good to be able to utilise existing areas of interest and a beautiful, listed garden wall quarried from stone local to the property was used as a focal point in the garden as the back drop to an elaborate herbaceous border. Across the lawn from the herbaceous border we created a large terrace to be enjoyed during the day with clusters of Cretan pots containing Olive trees underplanted and crammed full of Agapanthus .

Deep Lavender beds divide the terrace from the lawn. A herb garden with a central water feature is situated next to the terrace. Alongside the evening terrace a lake was built and filled with water lilies and other plants appropriate to a lakeside setting.

Behind the stone wall we created a Cherry orchard underplanted with a plentiful supply of mixed bulbs.
